Koochiching County

GEMMELL, a townsite located on the homestead of Peter McHugh in T. 152N, R. 27W (Evergreen), sections 20 and 21; it was first called Clear Lake, then Stoner, with a post office begun in Itasca County in 1904; it was then changed to Gemmell in 1905, when the Northern Pacific Railroad came, in honor of W. H. Gemmell of Brainerd, general manager of the Minnesota and International Railway. The post office discontinued in 1974.
